Incline Bench Press

The incline bench press is a barbell pressing movement performed on a bench set at an upward angle, lowering the bar to the upper chest and pressing it back to arm’s length.

Also called Incline Bench, Incline Press. orcatrain matches these names when you search the movement catalogue.

How is the incline bench press performed?

The bench is set to an incline, commonly somewhere around thirty to forty-five degrees, with the bar racked overhead. The lifter unracks it, lowers it under control to the upper chest near the collarbone, and presses it back until the elbows lock. The touch point sits higher on the torso than in a flat bench press, and the bar path is correspondingly more vertical.

What does the incline bench press train?

The incline bench press shifts pressing emphasis toward the upper chest and front deltoids by changing the angle of the torso, while keeping the barbell’s fixed path and higher absolute load. It sits between the flat bench press and the shoulder press: the steeper the bench, the more the movement resembles an overhead press. Expect the load to be lower than your flat bench.

How does orcatrain score the incline bench press?

Scored on its own as an orcatrain strength score, computed with the DOTS coefficient. Because the load depends heavily on the bench angle, logging at a consistent angle is what makes the history meaningful. Only the flat bench press is summed into the headline total, along with the squat and deadlift.

Every scored set is turned into an estimated one-rep max, and that estimate is scored with the DOTS coefficient against your bodyweight and sex — so a set is comparable with your own past work and with lifters of a different size. Sets above ten repetitions are recorded but not scored: the estimate is a curve fit that stops being honest past that point, so orcatrain returns nothing rather than a confident guess. Weights are stored in kilograms.
