Horizontal Leg Press
The horizontal leg press is a machine movement in which the seated lifter pushes a footplate away horizontally against a selected weight, rather than up an inclined track.
Also called Seated Leg Press. orcatrain matches these names when you search the movement catalogue.
How is the horizontal leg press performed?
The lifter sits upright in the machine with the back against the pad and both feet flat on the footplate. The plate is pushed away by straightening the hips and knees, stopping short of locking the knees, then the legs are allowed to bend back under control until the knees approach the chest. The seat position sets the starting range, so it is worth noting where you set it.
What does the horizontal leg press train?
The horizontal leg press trains the quadriceps and glutes in the same seated, supported way as the sled leg press, but with the load travelling horizontally. The practical difference is comfort and machine availability rather than which muscles work; both remove the balance and trunk demand that makes a squat a whole-body measure.
How does orcatrain score the horizontal leg press?
Log the weight selected on the stack. Horizontal machines are usually stack-loaded rather than plate-loaded, so the figure is a machine reading and is not comparable to a plate-loaded sled or to a squat. Scored on its own; not part of the headline total.
Every scored set is turned into an estimated one-rep max, and that estimate is scored with the DOTS coefficient against your bodyweight and sex — so a set is comparable with your own past work and with lifters of a different size. Sets above ten repetitions are recorded but not scored: the estimate is a curve fit that stops being honest past that point, so orcatrain returns nothing rather than a confident guess. Weights are stored in kilograms.
